GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a federally-funded college readiness and access program that seeks to increase the preparedness of high school students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The School District of Lancaster has a GEAR UP grant to serve the graduating Classes of 2017 and 2018.
Lancaster Education Foundation serves as the administrator of grant funding for the eligible students.
If, at some point over the past five (5) years, you were a part of the GEAR UP cohort in the School District of Lancaster, you may be eligible to receive a scholarship towards tuition, room and board, fees, books, supplies, or equipment to attend a degree-bearing program of undergraduate instruction at an institution of higher education. To be eligible to receive this scholarship, you must:
- Graduate from high school;
- Be accepted for enrollment in a program of undergraduate instruction at an institution of higher education;
- Be less than 22 years of age when you receive the scholarship;
- Have been a part of the GEAR UP cohort in the School District of Lancaster at some point since February 2012; see the cohort timeline below.
